Daily Aids

Adaptive Equipment

Occupational therapy will provide information for you regarding some adaptive equipment and techniques that you may find useful and accomplish your day-to-day activities after your surgery. You will learn how to dress bathe pick things up off the floor accomplish toileting tasks, and get in and out of the car independently after your surgery

Likely covered by your insurance:

  • Walker
(If your insurance will not cover walkers, we have many options for you to choose from)

Unlikely to be covered by your Insurance:

  • Bath Safety Shower Chair with Back
Although regular showering or bathing is essential to maintaining personal hygiene, some post total joint patients have trouble standing up for the length of a shower. Shower chairs can help you get yourself clean independently while reducing the risk of injury.
  • Toilet Seat Riser
This 5" raised toilet seat comes with conveniently raised arms for easy use and a front locking clamping making transfers worry-free.
  • Sock Aid with built-up handles
Similar to shoes, reaching your feet to put on sock every day can be challenging with decreased flexibility after surgery. This Sock Aid allows you to easily put on your socks without strain.
  • Contoured bath sponge
Whether in your shower or bath, the extra length sponge will help you wash while recovering
  • Dressing Aid
This dressing stick was specifically designed to help you regain your independence after surgery by making it easier to put on and take off clothing.
  • Reacher
This extra-long, 32", reacher is essential for or grabbing items far away or off the floor
  • Plastic shoehorn
Putting on shoes can be especially difficult after surgery. This extra-long, 16-1/2", shoehorn makes this daily activity easy.
Other items patient benefit from having:
  • Suction Grab Bars
Post-surgery, entering and exiting your shower can be difficult and unsafe. These grab bars attach to any smooth surface in your shower,  giving you the stability you need to feel stable.
  • Handheld Shower Head
Showering after surgery requires care to make sure the wound site doesn't get directly sprayed. This handheld showerhead allows you to direct the water exactly where it needs to go. Works on most showerheads.
  • Elastic Shoelaces
These elastic shoelaces allow you to continue using your current laced shoes but without the challenge of tying them. Simply replace your current laces with these new elastic laces and pull them tight.
